Sayfullo Saipov is the 29-year-old terrorist suspect who killed eight people and injured several others in New York City today is from the Central Asia country of Uzbekistan.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer reported that his sources informed him that the suspect moved to the U.S. in 2010.

There are reports that he has a residence in Tampa, Florida, as well in in New Jersey.

The New York Police Department tweeted that the suspect rented a truck from Home Depot.

A little after 3 this afternoon, the suspect drove the truck down a pedestrian walkway; killing 8 people and injuring several others.

After crashing the truck, the suspect jumped out and reportedly yelled “God is Great” in Arabic.

A police officer encountered the suspect, who was brandishing two weapons, and shot him in the abdomen.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. The NYPD tweeted that they recovered a paint ball gun and a pellet gun from the scene.

It is not clear whether the suspect brandished the paint ball gun, pellet gun, or two other weapons at the police officer when he was shot.

Robert Baer, a former CIA operative, told CNN’s Erin Burnett that a terrorist will often bring fake weapons to a crime scene in order to increase the chances of being killed by the police; which the terrorist believes will lead to him being martyred.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Terrorists, specifically those associated with ISIS, have resorted to more guerilla like tactics.

A terrorist who uses guerilla like tactics are not well organized and uses whatever he has at his disposal, like a knife and/or a truck, in order to carry out an attack.

ISIS has carried out several of these attacks in Europe. This year, ISIS claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Finland that left two people dead and the terrorist attack in Spain that left 14 people dead. ISIS has not claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in New York City.

There has been one other terrorist attack, this year, in the U.S. that involved the use of a vehicle as a deadly weapon and that attack occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia, where one person was killed and several injured.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio condemned the attacks today.

Governor Cuomo stated that the Halloween parade will not be canceled and he tweeted that “terror will not change New York.”

Mayor de Blasio tweeted, “This was a cowardly act of terror. It was intended to break our spirit. But New Yorkers are resilient. We will be undeterred.”
